IN ODE TO BOJANGLES FROM A LEGEND

backstory of song

"Mr. Bojangles" is a song written and originally recorded by American country music artist Jerry Jeff Walker for his 1968 album of the same title.
Walker said he was inspired to write the song after an encounter with a street performer in a New Orleans jail. While in jail for public intoxication in 1965, he met a homeless man who called himself "Mr. Bojangles" to conceal his true identity from the police. Mr. Bojangles had been arrested as part of a police sweep of indigent people that was carried out following a high-profile murder. The two men and others in the cell chatted about all manner of things, but when Mr. Bojangles told a story about his dog, the mood in the room turned heavy. Someone else in the cell asked for something to lighten the mood, and Mr. Bojangles obliged with a tap dance. The homeless "Mr. Bojangles", who was white, had taken his pseudonym from Bill "Bojangles" Robinson (1878–1949), a black entertainer.

Someone asked: "What do you consider your main goal as an artist or art appreciator?"

The following was my answer

I will start with art appreciator. My main goal as an art appreciator is to spread the work of my fellow artists. It is that simple. In my various online places, I share the work of drawers/writers/photographers/videographers/ or other artist. I can't dictate, guarantee, or control at the moment if a work i share or discuss will lead to greater fortunes for the artist who created it. As in the same way very few of whom can appreciate my work can dictate, guarantee, or control any fortune to me based on my art. The reality is, in modernity, those who have huge followings, or globally famous, do have the ability to guarantee some level of fortune to any artist by appreciating their work publicly. Even if the appreciation is negative.  I can't tell you how many writers were aided because someone famous publicly spoke of their book, positively or negatively. The best negative example is what some have called the worst movie ever. Is that fair to all artists? no. Does that make appreciating from someone in my current standing, popularity wise, irrelevant? no. But, financially, art appreciation is related to the appreciator. If the medici's or other wealthy clans of italy chose other artist we would not know michelangelo or leonardo or similar; or, their work will not be for fortunes at auction as you read this.  Having said that, all appreciation is valuable to the labor of an artist. Why? The value has two parts and a third potential. First, it provides an artist with the ability to say someone is noticing my work, in whatever way. For example, I had people call my writing crap in public, in my presence. That is ok. They had to read it and in choosing to do so, they spent time that they were not forced to engaging in my work, which is a small part of a humongous set of works, and that feels good. Second, the publicity of appreciation allows the potential of the stranger who goes by it. Whether online publicly or in a small private group. Even if the appreciator speaks total negatives to a work of art, that doesn't mean those that interact to their appreciation have to come to the same conclusion. One of them may find in said art work , xanadu.

I present as an accompaniment to this point, a story in video form from , the great in my opinion, Ray Bradbury

The third potential value is when someone likes your work vibrantly. It isn't guaranteed and isn't warranted or needed all the time, but no artist hates when someone says, what you made is beautiful, and that positivity sharing plus growth is simply good.

As for my main goal as an artist:)well, the first thing I must answer is if I was financially wealthy, would I still be creating? The answer is yes. I have been creating my whole life. More gold than all in Erebor, will not change that. At the moment, not evading the question, what is my main goal? As a multimedia artist it is split. As a writer, I want to earn revenue as the main goal, but I haven't written absent the second goal to enjoy writing. Not yet anyway. As a drawer, as in my calligraphy, or programmer my main goal is to make what I think is beautiful or fun. The secondary goal is to make money, but I don't see financial profit as a main goal.

I want to end with one point. When one's goal is to make money. The idea of time matters. The goal of a firm on the stock exchange is to make money all the time, morning noon or night for its entire history. But, human beings have two types of time allowed for making money. It is the time they have left, or the time that hasn't ended. I am fortunate to have the time that hasn't ended. My labors plus loving ones allow me time to keep creating for revenue and not need the immediacy that time you have left brings. For those artist who are allowed time they have left. A simple truth, no one can predict whether your art will lead to comfortable revenue. So you must be ready in your mind, for when the time is up. Just a suggestion.

Nigerwife from Vanessa Walters

What I find enjoyable about this book , even without reading it, is its premise. I have fortunately traveled about the Black community in humanity. Not just the USA where I was born and raised but elsewhere. And, many Black people throughout humanity in their speech or action don't realize a black financial elite exist in every country where black people, the phenotypical race, exist. The activities of people in the black fiscal elite community globally while many black people know are rarely emphasized. That is the key to this book on glance, with that near magical title.  From Black elected officials to black wealthy entertainers to black industrialists, the Black financial elite have ways of life that need more attention from fiscally poor black people moreso.

Claudine from Movies That Move We

I think remaking Claudine will be a nice testament to Ozzie Davis + Diahann Carroll. The topics are clearly relevant today merely from the fact that the majority in the black community in the usa are still financially trapped like Claudine and her clan walking down a street in northern harlem. While the characters still have validity in NYC, I do think the message will have to include the old Claudine. Because the why of a modern claudine or claudine 2023 being valid alongside claudine 1974 warrants a place in the modern film.

More of My Thoughts In Depth... I did rant a little:)

Question: What if Paul Atreides was female?

My Answer: The biggest problem with the hypothesis: if jessica's first child was female is how the entire story of dune is born from her choice. Jessica acted freely as an individual, independently as a concubine, emotionally as a wife, radically as a bene , selfishly as a concubine. By having a female child jessica acts communally as an individual, collectively as a concubine, mechanically as a wife, commonly as a bene, selflessly as a concubine. The entire strategy of the emperor is dysfunctional to the emperor's stated purposes if Paul is female. Without the emperor's influence, the movements of the atriedes from caladan or the actions of the Harkonens everywhere are changed extremely. So, from my view, if paul is female then dune is a different story. If I was to write said alternative universe dune, the story of "Paul the female" is about a woman bred to be the "mother if god" who will be loyal and act like margot fenring to Feyd. with her only real threat the emperor and guild's machinations to kill her or feyd or anything from them both. It's a story of a princess publicly on the run , the emperor will not publicly attack her or feyd or their child but will do it through others covertly. And if the emperor doesn't attack then it means the story is a telenovela style with Paul the female side Feyd being raised to breed between them the "god-man" and then that is the story . How will the all-powerful bene gesseret who succeeded in creating their kwisatch deal with its existence.

Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening, wherever you are reading.

Welcome to the 19th edition of the 2023 Richard Murray Newsletter. I finished making the first version of an item, The I.S.D. cup,  I wrote in a story of mine. You can turn it about and see how it looks in various angles. I also finished a concept for Faefarm, the new game coming out for Nintendo. Please share to me your thoughts. If you made it this far: The Black Net + Toledo Swords+ more slashing of honor

The I.S.D. cup

The I.S.D. cup or Il Sol Depth cup is for champions of the twenty third Interplanetary Recycle Craft League Tour of Earth.

Each element represents something. The base represents the Interstellar Medium, the space outside the Sun's gravitational power.
The golden-esque cup looking like dust/gas is the Heliosphere, yes the sphere of the sun, created by the sun which the solar system we live in exist in. I chose the color for the effect.
The greyish spirals above is an interpretation of the Heliospheric current, which is shaped like an archemides spiral but after hours and hours and some lost attempts:) I just went for spiral rings. One day I may upload the sketches.
In the center is the sun and the planets from mercury to Jupiter are present at top.
And yes, it can be used as a sipping cup.
At the bottom is a small indentation representing the milkyway.  The eye where our sun resides.

If you want to see the cup as a model, use the following.
